WHAT TO BRING – Group Equipment and Individual Packing List

 The “Kitchen”  (team: Lee Ann; Judy; Catherine)

  • 2 Propane 2-burner stoves & 10 LB Propane Tank
  • 1 1-burner camp stove and 2 litres of Naptha Fuel
  • pots
  • frying pan
  • coffee pots
  • utensils for cooking (RACCC cooking utensil sets)
  • small plastic cutting board
  • dish soap & wash pans
  • lighters
  • work gloves
  • tarps & ropes in case of foul weather
  • trash bags
  • water filters & PUR for use by group members – to make drinking water potable
  • water containers to carry 2 litres/paddler/half-day
  • Rubbermate tubs for the kitchen & the communal food & a separate pack for lunch

Responsibilities of Individuals

  • submit required paperwork (waivers & membership in the Voyageur Brigade Society)
  • share in camp chores
  • pay their share of the costs … please bring cash & / or a cheque book
  • help the Four Wind Brigades achieve its goals.

What to Bring:        

Personal Kitchenware & Beverages

  • your own plate, bowl, cup & cutlery
  • Your own alcohol: pack in Nalgene bottles for both discretionary purposes & to eliminate the risk of broken glass

 Personal Gear … Pack all your gear in a dry bag or waterproofed container. Remember space is limited.

  • Identification, Cash/credit/etc to pay for outings, restaurant meals, etc
  • Paddle: a 54 inch bent shaft paddle for those who have one or wish to purchase one OR a 54-56 inch regular paddle
  • Canadian approved personal flotation device / life jacket with a pea-less whistle (required by Transport Canada) to be worn at all times in the canoe
  • tent
  • sleeping bag & sleeping bag liner
  • thermarest / sleeping pad
  • 1-litre nalgene bottle for water ( 2-3 litres per day)
  • sun glasses
  • spare glasses
  • sunscreen
  • bug repellent, bug jacket
  • camera & spare batteries
  • flashlight or head lamp (and spare batteries)
  • Personal Ouch kit:  your personal medications;  pain reliever,  bandaids
  • TP & toiletries
  • a few clothes pegs
  • 30 litre dry bags (2 is OK) for clothes and gear; a large day-pack lined with a garbage bag  or dry bag works too. Two 30-litre bags is better than one big one.
  • day pack:  for camera, sunscreen, nalgene bottle, & rain gear … the items you want to have access to during the day.
  • your own snacks for the day (e.g. gorp in a nalgene bottle)

Suggested Clothing… Pack in dry bags  (2 good garbage bags can work)

  • rain pants & jacket (pants optional)
  • sun hat with a wide brim
  • 2 t-shirts
  • 2 long sleeve shirts
  • 2 pair quick drying long pants (wear one; second as spare)
  • light jacket / wind breaker
  • wool sweater or fleece jacket
  • 1 pair sturdy foot wear (running shoes are fine)
  • water shoes (old running shoes are fine, but smelly)
  • 3 pair socks (wool or synthetic)
  • 2 silk or smart wool or polypro underwear (tops & bottoms)
  • wool or fleece hat / ski toque
  •  wool or fleece gloves
  • paddling gloves (for blister prevention and sun protection; can buy at MEC)
  • towel (quick drying if possible)
  • bathing suit
